Arjan Durresi is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Indiana University Purdue University in Indianapolis, Indiana. In the recent past, he also held roles as associate professor at LSU, research scientist of Computer Science and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The Ohio State University. He has published over sixty papers in journals and over ninety papers in conference proceedings, and five book chapters. He also has over thirty contributions to standardization organizations such as IETF, ATM Forum, ITU, ANSI and TIA. He is the PI of three NSF funded research projects. His research has also been funded by the States of Ohio and Louisiana, as well as university and industry sources.
Dr. Durresi's research interest include: Network Architectures, Heterogeneous Wireless ad hoc and sensor Networks, Security, QoS Routing Protocols, Traffic Management, Grid Computing, Optical and Satellite Networks, Multimedia Networking, Circuit design, Performance Evaluation and Testing, and Bioinformatics.
His teaching experience includes:Computer Networks, Sensor Networks, Computer and Network Security, Wireless and Mobile Networking, Telecommunications, Computer Architecture, Optical Networks, Simulation Techniques, Circuit Design.
Dr. Durresi serves as Area Editor of Ad Hoc Networks (Elsevier)" Journal. He is on Editorial Boards of Journal of Network and Computer Applications(Elsevier) and Journal of Ubiquitous Computing and Intelligence -JUCI, (American Scientific Publishers - ASP). He is Guest Editor of IJWMC - International Journal of Wireless and Mobile Computing for the Special Issue: "Wireless Sensors and Ad Hoc Networks," 2005. He is Workshops Co-Chair for 21th IEEE International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications AINA 2007 to be held in Niagara Falls, Canada, May 21-23, 2007. He was Program Co-Chair of the AINA 2006 held in Vienna, Austria, on April 19 (Wed.) - April 21 (Fri.), 2006. He was the Founder the First International Workshop on Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks - HWISE 2005 held in 2005. He was the Co-Chair of HWISE in 2005, 2006 and 2007. He was Program Vice Chair for 11th IEEE ICPADS - International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems and Area Chair for 19th IEEE AINA 2005. Dr. Durresi was Program Vice Chair of IEEE AINA 2004 conference.
His research has influenced the directions of Testing working group of ATM Forum, an International Consortium of Computer and Telecommunications companies. Many of the metrics and procedures developed by him have been adopted by ATM Forum and will be used throughout the networking industry. He is an active participant and has written contributions to several other industry forums including Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), American National Institute (ANSI), Telecommunications Institute of America (TIA) and International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
He was one of the founding partners of ITEC-Ohio effort. Itec-Ohio has been selected to develop and test the only Internet2 Test and Evaluation Center in the country. Dr. Durresi has continued to work closely on several projects with ITEC-Ohio, which is a catalyst for network research in Ohio.
For his "outstanding Research Accomplishments", Dr. Durresi received the 2002 Lumley Research Award from the College of Engineering at the Ohio State University.
Dr. Durresi holds a patent on measuring the quality of signal in optical networks.
In the last years he has obtained research funding for more than $ 1 Million from NSF, the States of Ohio and Louisiana, OAI, TRW and Honeywell. He has collaborated for more than eleven years with Professor Raj Jain in many researchprojects in networking area funded by NSF and NASA.

Arjan Durresi received a Ph.D. degree in Telecommunication and Electronic Eng. from Polytechnic University of Tirana in 1993, GPA 4.0/4.0, Graduated summa cum laude.
He received a Post-Graduate Degree, from Italian Telecommunication Institute, La Sapienza University, Italy, Diploma with Honors in Telecommunication, GPA 4.0/4.0, Graduated summa cum laude.
During 1986 - 1991 he was Lecturer and research scientist in telecommunication at Polytechnic University of Tirana. He accomplished research in Computer Aided Design and simulation techniques for telecommunication systems. Development of many CADs and simulation environments, which have been used successfully in practice for the design of telecommunication systems in civil and military applications.
Research in the field satellite communication systems. The results of this research have been used in the design of terrestrial communication system centers for the European Weather Forecast satellite "Meteosat".
During the period 1991 - 1994 he was a Senior Software Engineer Designer at Telesoft SpA. Rome Italy which is the biggest Telecommunication Software company in Italy and among the leaders in this field in Europe. He lead the GSM cell planning system project: "Integrated Radio Mobile Advanced Project System " IRMA-PS. He accomplished research in traffic management and Operation Support Systems applied to analysis and design of the telecommunication platforms including: Operation and Management System (OMC) for mobile networks GSM and TACS, OSS for the Intelligent Network, Billing system for mobile telephone network, antifraud system for mobile network.
Prior to joining the OSU in September 1996, he was Associate Professor, Chairman of Telecommunication Division and Vice-Dean of Electrical Engineering Faculty at Polytechnic University of Tirana, Albania. He led research activities in computer and telecommunication networks, distance learning, mobile telephony and multimedia networks. He managed several national and international research projects in collaborations other European universities funded by European Union in the framework of Phare program, including developing new rural area telecommunication networks and proposing new technologies for Distance Learning,. The result of these projects has been the proposal for new multimedia networked technologies, some of them implemented in distance learning centers in several universities. He led a TEMPUS program funded by European Union for the development of new curricula in computer science and telecommunication.
