you are welcome to choose your own style, you should start with
these guidelines.

About your account:
General
As a part of this class, students are given accounts on the CS Unix
system. Please read the FAQ on unix accounts that will be passed out
the first day. You are responsible for using the account
appropriately.
UserID
Your userID for the DS9 system is your first initial and the first 7
characters of your last name all in lower case. For example, Frank
Lee Mydear's userid would be fmydear. Note this is NOT the same as
your cord / jewel account.
If this name doesn't work, there may be another person in the system
with a similar name. Try your first initial, middle initial, and
first 6 characters of your last name, again all in lowercase. If
there was already a 'Felicia Mydear' in the system, Frank's userid
might be flmydeer.
If this does not work, please use another account to email
sorr@cs.iupui.edu and ask for clarification.
Password
Your default password is your first initial, followed by the last 4
digits of your SID, followed by the first 3 digits of your last
name.
For example, if Frank's SID is 123-45-6789, his default password
would be f6789myd.
CHANGE your password! Do not leave it at the default value!
Use the passwd command at the command line to change
your
password.
