Center of Excellence forVisual Information Sensing and ComputingThe Center for Visual Information Sensing and Computing (VISC) is a cross-disciplinary research center, dedicated to fundamental and application research in the emerging field of multi-sensory information processing. Our missions are: 1. Research innovations: developing cutting-edge technologies for multi-modal, multi-scale and multi-dimensional sensory information processing, fusion, visualization, and analysis. 2. High-impact applications: developing advanced applications through cross-disciplinary collaborations that can lead to significant social and scientific impacts. As the primary mean in which digital world interacts with the physical world, sensory technology (e.g. electronic surveillance, 3D range data scanning, biometric sensory, medical imaging, and remote sensing) is rapidly becoming an integrated part of our everyday life. The science of understanding and reasoning with sensory information constitutes the brain of a digital system, and is destined to become a grand challenge of the new century. VISC center is an establishment of an inter-disciplinary research group on sensory information processing and analysis. It combines visual computing technology and application domain expertise in medicine, biology, geology/geography, bioinformatics, biomechanics, psychology, forensic science, etc.
