Computer Science Research
Biomedical Visualization and Imaging
This project aims to develop integrated and high performance 3D visualization, imaging, modeling and simulation techniques for innovative biomedical applications. The research team consists of a cohort of computer scientists, biomedical researchers and clinicians. The overall research goal is to develop innovative 3D techniques and applications to efficiently process and analyze biomedical data collected from clinical and biological structures, and to combine the data with computer models using computer graphics and simulation techniques for biomedical research, and medical diagnosis and treatment. The research plan includes the developments of both new visualization techniques and innovative biomedical applications. The technical areas will focus on: interactive rendering algorithms, 3D image analysis and segmentation, volume modeling and data fusion, virtual and augmented reality environment, and network-based visualization.
The technical development will be conducted in the context of practical biomedical applications in data analysis, medical diagnosis, surgery and training. The two main applications are: 3D microscopy visualization and imaging, and craniofacial surgical planning and growth prediction.
