BS/MS Dual Degree
The Department of Computer & Information Science is pleased to announce the development of a new 5-year BS/MS joint degree program, to begin soon. This program allows students who are highly motivated to earn both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in the field in just five academic years. Applicants must be current IUPUI students pursuing a BS degree in Computer Science. Admission is based on satisfactory academic progress, and students may apply here.
The five year BS/MS program allows students to complete three 500-level courses that substitute for required or elective courses in the major, thus shortening the time to complete their MS degree by one academic term. Students then complete the remaining twenty-one credit hours of the MS program after admission, and earn their MS degrees in just one year’s time.
Students apply during their sophomore year and begin taking graduate courses during their junior year.
Admission Requirements
- A minimum IU (IUPUI) cumulative GPA of 3.2.
- Completed application, available online or in the Department of Computer & Information Science, SL 280.
Program Guidelines
Students are assigned a faculty advisor upon admission to the combined program. An advisory committee, consisting of at least three members of the Purdue Graduate Faculty is required. Not less than two from Computer Science, must sit on the committee.
- Students may substitute 500 level versions of required core or elective courses in the bachelor’s degree to complete the nine required graduate credits. Such substitutions include:
- CSCI 50300 replaces 40300
- CSCI 50700 replaces 45200
- CSCI 53600 replaces 43600
- CSCI 54100 replaces 44300
- CSCI 54900 replaces 48700
- CSCI 55000 replaces 43700
- CSCI 58000 replaces 46300
- CSCI 59000 (Data Mining) replaces CSCI 48100
- All other program requirements for the BS program remain constant.
- Only three (3) three-credit 50000 level or higher courses may apply to this program.
